Even though people have lived here for five millennia, today's Athens is relatively modern with practical buildings dominated by white colour and marble. They became the capital in 1834 when the Greeks freed themselves from Turkish occupation. At that time, they had only two thousand inhabitants. The heart of the city is Syntagma Square, where the Garden of the Muses was once and the famous Lykeion, where Aristotle had his philosophical school. Today, the parliament building stands here, in front of which is the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, who died for the freedom of Greece.
The city over which the goddess of wisdom holds a protective hand. After all, the metropolis is named after her, where ancient history and modern style were combined. The enchanting city where democracy and most philosophers were born. Athens never sleeps, and every visitor will fall in love with it for its unique atmosphere.
Our meeting will start at Athens airport. Our driver will take you to the hotel, and you will meet our guide afternoon, after small rest. In the later afternoon, we will explore together the atmosphere in the city during the evening and local tasting of amazing and famous specialities.
After breakfast, we will spend all day in the city exploring the unforgettable history and famous places. We will ascend to the Acropolis, where the jewel of the cultural heritage of mankind stands - the Pantheon. It is dedicated to the goddess Athena, who became the city's patroness after the just decision of the first Athenian king Kekrops. A short distance below the Acropolis stands the modern historical museum Akropolis, which is considered a treasure trove of monuments. However, the centre of life is not concentrated near the Acropolis but in the city's centre between Plaka and Monastiraki. While walking through the old town of Plaka, a sort of Athenian Mont Martre, we will constantly come across small churches, ruins of ancient buildings and ancient monuments - the ruins of the Roman agora or Hadrian's library - in the tangle of streets. Metropolis Church, Athens Cathedral and many other places. The tower of the winds - was built already in the 1st century after Christ and, as the name implies, was used to determine the direction of the wind. The district of Monastiraki has a different character than Plaka. It has more variety, thanks to the Turkish presence. Kentriki agora is also located here - a market that is more than 110 years old. They mainly sell meat and fish in covered halls. We will end the walk at Omonia Square
After breakfast will, our driver take you to the airport.
